Aug. 12, 2019—The CFISD Board of Trustees approved the namesake for the special program facility formerly known as the Windfern School of Choice, The Leonard Brautigam Center, during its regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 12.

Brautigam spent his entire 37-year career in education in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, beginning in 1970 at Cy-Fair High School as an industrial arts teacher. He served as president of the Brazos Valley Industrial Arts Teacher Association and named a Teacher of the Year honoree by the association.

Brautigam moved into an administrative role in 1976, serving as an assistant principal at Dean Middle School for six years and at Watkins Middle School for another two years.

In 1984, he was named principal at Campbell Middle School. He served in the role for eight years until he was named principal at Langham Creek High School in 1992. Brautigam was promoted to assistant superintendent for student services in 1997 and served in the role until his retirement in 2007.

During his teaching tenure, Brautigam’s teams were routinely successful at the state level, capturing multiple championships at the annual state industrial arts fair. While an assistant superintendent, Brautigam oversaw graduations, athletics, student discipline and security, implemented the district’s first security cameras and student identification badges, and managed the first Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) programs in CFISD at Cypress Ridge and Cypress Springs High School.

The Brautigam Center will be located at 13102 Jones Road, a newly renovated campus that formerly housed Matzke Elementary School.

“I’m honored and humbled that the CFISD Board of Trustees and Dr. Mark Henry selected me as the namesake of the newly renovated Windfern School of Choice,” Brautigam said. “I want to share this honor with all of the CFISD team who helped provide quality educational opportunities and services to so many students. Without the many great mentors in my career, this recognition would not be possible.”
